CAROL ANN OVEROSS
Artist/Yoga Instructor
Carol Oveross was born and raised in New York City AKA "The Big Apple." At the age of 13, she and her family moved to the West Coast, where she continued developing her artistic skills. Since receiving her degree in Fashion Illustration in Los Angeles, she has shown her artwork at various exhibitions in California and Arizona.
One of these exhibitions was the Staff and Faculty Art Exhibition at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), where she worked for many years, part of her 25 year career in Los Angeles, California. It was during this time that she was inspired to create her own Pen and Ink sketching journals, recording many of her life's journeys, gaining inspiration from her travels throughout Europe with her students as their Study Tour and Travel Coordinator.
Her creations in pen and ink capture many sights of the fashion capitals she was fortunate to visit in Europe, including cities in England, France, Italy, Spain, Wales and Scotland. Aside from work-related destinations to Europe, Carol also travels to exotic destinations, such as the rainforests of Brazil and Costa Rica.
Today, she is a new Arizona resident facilitating a sketching class for the OLLI program (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) entitled "Create your own Sketching Journal" at Yavapai College in Clarkdale. Carol is also a certified Yoga Teacher, instructing gentle yoga classes weekly throughout the Verde Valley, which gives her graceful figures as additional inspiration for other sketching subjects.
Her most recent exhibitions in Arizona include: "Paintings, Poetry, Music and Spirit: Honoring the Inspiration Behind Art" at the Sedona Art Center (September 2007); a one-woman exhibition as "Featured Artist of the Month" in old town Cottonwood's popular establishment The Orion Bakery Company (November 2007) and at the "Made in Clarkdale" Art Show (December 2007).
Along with studying portraiture with artist Eva Marie Commaneach of San Marino, California, Carol has studied with other noted artists, such as Southern California's Timothy Clark of San Juan Capistrano, at his painting and drawing workshops in Laguna Beach.
Carol accepts commissions for personal portraits throughout the country. Currently Carol and her life-mate, Dr. Jerry O. Miller, reside in Cottonwood, Arizona. To contact her, call (928) 646-0148, cell (818) 383-6609, or by E-mail: carolsgentleyoga@yahoo.com.
